C-SIG Week 2

Closter NJ, 40 miles round-trip, included a sit-down lunch.  The weather started damp and cold but got really nice by midday.

One of the more appealing things about these rides is the leaders’ ability to develop routes that are mostly flat, despite Bergen County being quite hilly — which, given my relative fitness, is absolutely essential at this point.  For the second consecutive week they took us to Walnut Street in Engelwood, which is in the lower end of Bergen County NJ road inclines, to test our climbing ability at least a little bit.  We’ll move up in grade, speed and distance next Saturday.

Today I ran 5.25 miles in the late afternoon after the rain had passed.  I had to coax myself over the Cat Hill (which was only at mile 2 - the mental game I play every day is far, far tougher than the physical one) but after that I was fine.  Not fast, just trying to get through it.
